Liebherr has delivered a new LHM 550 mobile harbour crane to BLG LOGISTICS at the Bremerhaven car terminal to expand transhipment capacity.

The crane is equipped with a 4.8-metre tower extension to accommodate ship heights and has a reach of 54 metres to cover a wide range of applications.

With 10 driven axles, it can be used flexibly on site and can be operated with shore power.

The LHM 550 can therefore potentially contribute to low-emission port logistics and thus supports BLG’s goal of reducing emissions.

The new crane complements an existing fleet comprising an LHM 400 in Bremerhaven and two units – an LHM 320 and another LHM 550 – in Bremen.

A fifth Liebherr mobile harbour crane is to be delivered to Bremen before the end of this year, further strengthening BLG’s fleet.

Axel Krichel, Member of the Executive Board and COO of the BLG Group, said: “The new LHM 550 takes us to a new level in heavy-duty cargo handling and is a clear commitment to the further development of the site.”

“Delivering a crane to a terminal of this size requires not only knowledge of the technical requirements, but also of the entire logistical environment,” said Andreas Ritschel, General Manager Sales Mobile Harbour Cranes at Liebherr-Rostock GmbH.

“This LHM 550 was developed to support Bremerhaven in its role as a high-volume, future-proof port.”
