Customs Support Group’s Amanda Fraser recognised for transforming HR setup in UK&IE business

An inspiring HR professional has won a coveted national award at a ceremony held to recognise the “most exceptional” women operating in transport and logistics.

Amanda Fraser, senior HR manager for the UK&IE at Customs Support Group (CSG), picked up the Infrastructure Award at the 2025 Everywoman in Transport and Logistics Awards last week.

The awards are held to inspire the next generation of female talent to pursue careers in a sector which has traditionally been dominated by men.

Amanda was presented with her award in recognition of the huge inroads she has made in building new internal structures at CSG, which is one of Europe’s leading customs clearance and trade solutions providers.

The UK&IE arm of the business has grown significantly via mergers and acquisitions, and Amanda has been responsible for unifying terms and conditions across six entities in eight locations. This has included enhancing benefits and introducing new ones, including a focus on mental health support for staff.

Amanda said: “At the awards, a statistic was shared that women currently make up just 28 per cent of the workforce in the transport and logistics sector. However, following the findings of our recent ESG report, I’m proud to say that women represent more than 50 per cent of the workforce at CSG. This demonstrates that CSG is not only committed to diversity but is also a safe and supportive environment for women in the industry.

“Being part of the senior leadership team gives me a seat at the decision-making table. Having female representation at that level is incredibly valuable, not just for balance, but for bringing diverse perspectives that drive better outcomes.

“The lack of representation in our industry is an institutionalised issue – it’s not necessarily about lack of opportunities, more about mindset and culture. My favourite quote is ‘Be bold, be brave, be curious’ because sometimes as women we take a bit of a back seat and some of us aren’t happy to take up space in this world. My message is, just own it!

“A key factor in attracting top talent is flexibility. Women are often expected to do it all and have it all. Employers need to create inclusive environments that support work-life balance, because that’s what truly enables women to thrive in the workforce.”

Speaking about the HR project which formed the basis of her award, Amanda added: “This process has been a big part of CSG’s growth journey. It provides a great platform to continue our growth plans and prepare us for the future with a solid foundation on which to do so.

“It’s taken a lot of blood, sweat, tears and team support from my colleague Jemma Osborne, our HR adviser, to get to this point – we’re a small team of two and I couldn’t have done it without her.”

In 2024, CSG achieved a balanced gender distribution within its workforce, with women now representing 50 per cent of all employees, up from 47 per cent in 2023.

Female representation in management also increased from 32 per cent to 38 per cent and the average unadjusted gender pay gap, while still recognised as needing improvement, has decreased from 14 to eight per cent.

Keiron Myall, managing director for CSG UK&IE, said: “Amanda is a truly deserving recipient of this award, both for her efforts to raise the profile of careers in logistics for women and for the complex task of harmonising our terms and conditions during a period of rapid acquisition and growth.

“CSG is committed to transparency and supporting changemakers like Amanda to bring forward real and meaningful change. As a result of this focus, 100 per cent of our sites are now formally covered by a diversity policy, up from 17 per cent in 2023.”
