A new net-zero logistics hub that promises to create thousands of jobs in Cambridgeshire is on its way.

Proposals have been made by Newlands Developments for the construction of Hinchingbrooke Logistics Park in Huntingdon.

It aims to deliver around 2,000 ‘varied’ jobs including entry-level roles for young people. Meanwhile a total of 500 construction jobs will be directly supported.

With environment at the fore, plans also include a net-zero extension to Hinchingbrooke Business Park. Plus, developers will be adding to the number of green and blue spaces in the area, including integration with Hinchingbrooke County Park, as they promise a 15 per cent Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).

On top of support for sectors like life sciences and agri-tech, the proposal details how the new centre will help provide local employment opportunities, training and upskilling. Then it will bring improvements to public transport in and around Huntingdon, with footpaths and the introduction of cycleways proposed with the aim of linking homes with workplaces.

“We’re excited to bring forward plans for Hinchingbrooke Logistics Park— a Net Zero Carbon development that will create new opportunities for Huntingdon and surrounding communities, leaving a lasting, positive legacy, ” said a Newlands Developments spokesperson.

“With direct access to the A1 and A14, and over half of Huntingdonshire’s working-age population living within 10km, the site is ideally placed to support local jobs and sustainable growth in the industrial and logistics sector.”

The site for the logistics hub is 126.57 hectares of farmland located north-east of the A141 and west of the A130. Newlands has been quoted saying this area will be used to build up to 205,000sqm of ‘employment floorspace’, with 30 per cent for general industrial use and the rest used for storage and distribution, both with ancillary office space.
