Image Capture provided proof of correctly loaded pallets to quickly resolve a dispute with a carrier

PAI Industries (https://www.paiindustries.com/) is one of the leading manufacturers of quality service parts to the heavy-duty truck industry. Damage to the company’s goods in transit was costing money and affecting brand reputation.

PAI knew that it was correctly packaging pallets for transit but needed a way to prove that to the carriers, to enable damages to be claimed. Within weeks of deploying StayLinked Evolve they claimed $26,000 for damage they could prove was caused by the carrier.

PAI Industries deployed StayLinked Evolve Image Capture solution which allows workers to take photos of correctly packed pallets with their rugged mobile computers. These photos are then associated with the existing data for the pallet and filed on the server. If there is any damage during delivery, PAI can go into the photo archive and quickly and easily retrieve the relevant photos.

“Evolve provided the perfect solution for our needs,” said Michael Libbe, solutions architect at PAI Industries. “Now that we have the photos in the archive, we can offer proof to both the customer and the carrier that we properly packed and shipped the pallet.”

Based in Suwanee, GA, PAI Industries manufactures specialized parts and ships them to distributors who sell them globally to repair facilities and fleet managers. PAI Industries’ parts are used in the truck engines of some of the best-known fleet brands in the world.

However, using less-than-trailer-load (LTL) carriers meant that its shipments shared trailers with other shipments and were at risk of accidental damage as pallets were taken off trailers, moved around distribution centers, and put onto other trailers – sometimes resulting in costly damages that PAI couldn’t prove were caused by the carrier.

As an existing StayLinked customer, PAI worked with its technology partner, Peak Technologies (www.peaktech.com), to deploy the Evolve Image Capture solution.

“PAI was packing the pallets correctly but couldn’t prove that to the carriers. StayLinked’s Evolve solution enabled PAI to prove this without doubt. And it paid for itself after the first successful dispute,” said JD Mervis, Sr. Regional Account Executive at Peak Technologies.”

“As a very satisfied StayLinked SmartTE customer for over ten years, it made perfect sense for us to try their Evolve solution,” said Libbe. “Both Peak and StayLinked were really easy to work with and we got things up and running really quickly.”

Beyond solving delivery disputes, the Image Capture feature has also helped with internal training, as Libbe explained. “There have been occasions where we learned that our warehouse staff did not pack and ship the pallet in a manner that would ensure a safe delivery.”

Libbe continues: “We use the images captured to enhance our ongoing training programs for our warehouse employees.  The images are an effective tool for reinforcing our packaging and shipping standards for our customer orders.”
