Parcel delivery firm poises to take control of logistics distribution group
InPost, which operates tens of thousands of parcel delivery lockers across Europe, is said to be closing in on a deal to take full ownership of logistics company Menzies Distribution Group
Sky News reports that InPost is in “very advanced” talks to acquire the 70% shareholding in Menzies that it does not already own.
Leeds-based private equity firm Endless is currently a majority shareholder in Menzies.
InPost, which is headquartered in Luxembourg but generates the largest share of its profit in Poland, acquired a 30% stake in Menzies in July last year for £49.3m.
Under this deal, it had an option to buy the rest of the company at any point in the next three years.
Menzies, which employs about 5,000 people, provides newspaper distribution, business-to-business final mile delivery, and other transportation and warehousing services.
It was sold by its parent company to Endless for £74.5m less than five years ago.
Menzies Distribution was previously part of John Menzies, one of Scotland’s oldest companies dating back to 1833.
Now, 52% of Menzies Distribution is owned by Endless, with 18% held by other shareholders, including its own current management.
