Electrical retailer AO has invested over £2 million to enhance its fleet capacity while cutting carbon emissions.

The company has doubled its fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG) tractor units, adding 10 more to the 10 purchased in 2022. AO aims to have 90% of its vehicles running on CNG by 2030, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 85%.

In addition to the CNG tractors, AO has acquired 20 longer moving deck double deck semi-trailers (LSTs), each 2.05m longer than their standard trailers, increasing capacity by 10%. These LSTs enable double-stacking of appliances on both decks and can be loaded four products wide, significantly boosting transport efficiency and reducing the number of journeys required.

David Ashwell, AO’s group logistics director, stated, “We are proud to be moving towards a more sustainable future with 90% of our fleet running on CNG by 2030. These new tractor units and LSTs help us cut our carbon footprint, save costs, and increase capacity, allowing us to deliver even better service to our customers.”
